Sustainable Materials A - Z

The materials library is an exciting and alluring place to explore materials and gain inspiration. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to interact with a range of interesting samples. We'll then investigate the factors that may make one material more sustainable than the next so that you can go away with an understanding of different material qualities, benefits and potential applications.

This helped me to understand that you need a good range of knowledge about materials in order to make good decisions.

The group task really highlighted that each design scenario has to be evaulated specifically – there’s no such thing as a sustainable material.

I realise that you have to research and question the material, don’t rely on preconceptions.

Design requirements can conflict with sustainability requirements – it’s complicated to try and imagine all of the possibilities for the life and end of life of your design.
